Section 8 Information

The Section 8 Program is a public/private partnership designed to provide rent subsidies for low-income families, using the existing privately-owned rental housing units available within the community. Eligibility is based on 30 % of median income. The program is subsidized and regulated by HUD. The Section 8 waiting list remains open, and is managed at the Housing Authority of Fort Fairfield Office.

All units and rental rates are subject to approval by the Housing Authority.

Housing Choice Voucher Program The total contract rent paid to a housing provider is negotiated between the housing provider and the prospective tenant, governed by rent reasonableness, but not by HUDs Fair Market Rent structure. The Housing Authority's share of the rent is calculated by subtracting 30% of the tenants monthly adjusted gross income from a Payment Standard established under HUD regulations. The tenant pays the balance.
